On 22 September from 17:00–20:00, a bicycle market takes place on Vabaduse pst in Tartu, offering the opportunity to buy a reasonably priced second-hand bicycle or to sell your working condition bicycle.
“Tartu is just the right size to comfortably get around by bicycle. We invite both university staff and students to the bicycle market to get their own two-wheeler and move around the city in a way that supports both health and the environment,” said Hans Orru, Head of the University of Tartu Centre for Sustainable Development and Professor of Environmental Health.
Sellers can sell their bicycles themselves to talk to interested buyers and negotiate prices, or tell the organisers the price of their bicycle and entrust the sale to volunteers from the Tartu Urban Cyclists Society. In addition to private sellers, Paranduskelder and Tartu Experimental Bicycle Factory will bring some bicycles to the market.
If you would like to sell your bicycle at the market, please let the organisers know via the registration form to help ensure smooth arrangements.
The bicycle market is organised by the Tartu Urban Cyclists Society, the City of Tartu, and the University of Tartu Centre for Sustainable Development.
17.2% of the bird’s eye distances travelled between University of Tartu study buildings in the autumn semester of 2022 were longer than 1 km and had to remain within half an hour. Moving between the Maarjamõisa and the Delta study buildings makes up almost a third of the distances.
