Evan Bloom: "Governing the Arctic"

"Climate change is opening the Arctic. Can the U.S. and NATO surpass Russian capabilities and ambitions in a new Cold War?" is one of the headlines of an analysis published by "Politico" in December 2022.

Similar alarming headlines pointing at Russia's supremacy over the Arctic began to spread when Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Public lecture on September 19, 2023 at 12.00 - 13.00 in room 307

Drawing direct connections to Russia's actions in Ukraine and the recent NATO enlargement in the north, Evan Bloom, a Senior Fellow at the Polar Institute, will shed light on the implications of these developments for international cooperation and governance in the Arctic. Geopolitical tensions, competition for resources, and environmental impact will be some themes the lecture will touch upon.

Mr. Bloom's full biography can be found on the Wilson Center page.

The lecture takes place in cooperation with the Wilson Center and the US Embassy in Tallinn.
